  • For works with a translator, follow the guidance for edited books but substitute "trans." for "ed." in the notes and "translated" for "edited" in the references.
  • Washington is traditionally followed by DC, but other major cities, such as Los Angeles and Baltimore, need no state abbreviation.
  • If the city of publication is not a major city or may be confused with another city of the same name, the abbreviation of the state, province, or (sometimes) country is usually added.
